NAS Celebrates 40 Years of Innovation and Growth

NAS Insurance today celebrates its 40th anniversary as a unique specialty insurance company with roots in Encino and expanding global relationships.   In 1975, a leading Lloyd’s of London underwriter wanted to explore the possibility of providing insurance to business owners seeking legal defense coverage and contacted Ed Robin, chairman of NAS. From there, the business and the partnership with Lloyd’s expanded and evolved.

“I am thrilled to see how our business has grown over the years,” remarks Robin. “We always had the spirit of doing things differently and a focus on creating innovative products. That strategy continues to be successful and keeps us on our toes.”  With headquarters in Encino, the company has grown locally and now has operations in Minneapolis, Chicago, Boston and Atlanta.

“We’re expanding to meet market demand for our products and to ensure NAS continues to provide great service to our clients,” commented Richard Robin, Ed’s son and CEO of NAS Insurance since 2009. “We have an amazing team of people here in Encino and are working hard to ensure that employees in our new offices fit with our culture and feel connected to our mission.” NAS today employs 136 people across its operation, having grown from a team of 8 back in 1994.

 “Even after 40 years, we continue to find new challenges and new ways to improve our business,” adds Jill Linhardt, Ed’s daughter who serves as Executive Vice President for NAS and oversees its claims department. “Cyber crime is a huge risk for companies and a big part of what’s fueling demand for our services. Not only as an insurance underwriter, but as advisors to companies on how to effectively respond to a breach and how to help companies be better prepared and avoid an incident.”

NAS Insurance Services was founded in 1975 as an independent underwriting manager. As a US coverholder for Lloyd’s of London, the business evolved to offer a broad range of professional and management liability insurance products in all 50 states. In 2014, Tokio Marine Kiln of London made a strategic investment in NAS and owns a 49% stake in the business.

NAS Insurance is a full-service specialty insurance underwriting manager that provides innovative product development, underwriting, marketing, risk management, and claims handling services for a broad range of specialty insurance products.
